Hi! I'm back from the 2021 Gem and Mineral Show in Tucson Arizona. I was able to get some Moldavite jewelry, but not as much as I'm sure we'd all like. More on that below. I will have lots of new and beautiful jewelry posted in the coming week, so stay tuned.
So what's going on with the supply of Moldavite? It all boils down to supply and demand. Let's start with the supply side of things. In 2018 one of the larger commercial mining sites depleted what was available at their location. Following that up in 2019, two more of the bigger operations also ceased production. Moldavite was still available from independent miners, but then Covid-19 happened. The Czech Republic went into lock down and was on the stricter side of things in regards to movement and activity. This has all led to very little material coming out of the ground.
Now on the demand side of things, well I'm sure many of you already know just how popular Moldavite has become. Moldavite went viral on TikTok and other social media platforms, so demand has skyrocketed. This confluence of events has led to a perfect storm of Moldavite availability. For the time being Moldavite will be hard to come by.
However there is good news. Miners are once again beginning to mine in the Czech Republic. They can't really mine in the winter due to the ground being frozen. So production is picking back up and hopefully things will stabilize in the coming months.
